Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesdays, assorted people have been taking monthly turns at putting up a selection of six (or twelve) words which is called “Words for Wednesday”.

We have taken over this meme from Delores, who had been having computer problems.
This month the meme continues here, at Elephant’s Child’s site, with words and images supplied by Margaret and Sue.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.

Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...

Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  We would really like it if as many people as possible joined in with this fun meme.
If you are posting on your own blog - let us know so that we can come along and read your masterpiece.
I’m hopeless at poetry so I always do a story.

It’s a fun challenge…why not join in?

This week's words are:
1. seek
2. connect
3. enhance
4. energetic
5. instrument
6. far

and/or:
1. perception
2. flame
3. guide
4. peaceful
5. thyme
6. able

Here is my story:

After listening to the energetic youngsters playing the music they'd learned on the instrument of their choice, my perception of a peaceful concert experience was far from what I'd imagined it would be.

The program guide stated these children had all practised hard for this end of year concert and were now able to read music quite well.

The music teacher had taken the stage as soon as the curtain closed on the final young trumpeter and now was speaking about the learning of music being a grand way to enhance a child's spiritual education, helping to connect them to their feelings, teaching them to seek out their inner beings; on and on she went, at one point running both hands through her wildly styled flame coloured hair, such was her enthusiasm for her speech.

All I wanted to do was go home and sit quietly with a cup of herbal tea. Camomile to calm  down with, a little thyme added to soothe the throat after the cheering I'd done along with the rest of the crowd.

I resolved to find a new teacher for my two nieces; the raucous sounds coming from various trumpets and violins, the plinkings from untuned pianos made me wonder just what this particular teacher specialised in.

If those children were ably reading music, then I was Queen Victoria!

Comments

  1. Hail to the Queen? Love the way you've created a very realistic scenario with the words... sounds quite like a piano teacher my daughter once went to.

  2. For someone who said she was having difficulties you have nailed this.
I love that the teacher was enthusiastic - and would HATE to be at that concert.

  5. Yeah, but...yeah, but...I bet the kids had tons of fun! :)

    An enjoyable tale, River. :)

  6. The Cranky; thank you. I imagine there's a few bad teachers out there. This one isn't, just has a roundabout method.

Elephant's Child; I spent all day thinking different ways to use the words. I came up with two and the second story is posted here tomorrow. The teacher is very enthusiastic.

Buttons Thoughts; she was 'not amused' :D

Merle; I'm sure you'll come up with something.

Lee; the kids did have fun. the teacher is using a method of her own devising and the aunt doesn't realise it yet. The students are quite young and still getting comfortable with their instruments and the sounds they make. What they are playing is more noise than music, but that changes as time goes on. The aunt learns this.

  8. Margaret-whiteangel; never had herbal tea? chamomile or peppermint or ginger&lemon? I drink a mix of sage and mint (grown in my garden) steeped in hot water with a little honey for sweetening. I used to drink a lot of different herbal teas that I'd buy from the health shop; Linden Tea; Meadowsweet and so on.
