Sunday Selections # 98

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.

You can also hop on over The Elephant's Child as she does a Sunday Selection most weeks too.

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections but this week I have just one photo for you.

Last month, yes, November, last month of spring and very warm temperatures, I stepped outside my front door and saw frost on the long grass right by my front porch.

In spring.
In South Australia.
Unheard of.
Well, unheard of for a very long time anyway.

Naturally I dashed back in for the camera and knelt down on the cold concrete for this macro shot.
Enlarging it will enable you to clearly see each frozen dewdrop.

And look! A photo without the Picasa warning....I think I've got that worked out.

  1. Years back when we lived in the Central West of NSW, it snowed in the first week of December! It didn't stay - but it did destroy our tomato crop. I loved your frozen dew - thank you.

  2. It actually snowed in the mountains down here the other day and then we had a heatwave.

  3. It seems so strange to hear November and spring in the same sentence.

  4. I still find it surprising when you talk about spring as we are in winter... beautiful picture!

  5. Great shot!!! Our hillside was whitish too - so much more beautiful for being so unexpected!!

  6. Beautiful shot. It seems the weather all over the world is a bit wacky.

  7. Elephant's Child; this is the first frost I've seen for many a year. We've had some hail storms here and there, but no frost. It was only in the shade, the sun touched areas had already thawed.

windsmoke; from one extreme to the other.

Delores; to you it must, just like you talking about summer when we are shivering beside our heaters.

Cindi Summerlin; have you had snow yet?

Red Nomad; the hills always get frost when it's cold enough, but down here in the city it's rare. A half hour later and I would have missed it.

Susan Flett-Swiderski; it does seem that way, every night the weather report has something unusual somewhere.

  8. Thats a really nice macro shot...

  9. Wow - frost in December! In Adelaide...???

  10. Tempo; it came out really well didn't it?

Kath Lockett; it was November, but close enough to December, still should have been to late for frost.

  11. One picture was all that was needed as it is SOOO beautiful. Like lots of wee diamond necklaces. I can't remember the last time I saw frost altho'when I lived a little further in from the coast the lawns used to crunch under our feet and the hoses would freeze but only in winter. Thank you for sharing that photo and well done for capturing the beauty that was there.

  12. Nature's Gem Stones ... beautiful picture. We have had frost and only a dusting of snow. Unfortunately our winter hasn't been beautiful in any way ... all grey days :(

You should add a linky to your meme so when people come here they can link to the others who are participating ... just sayin'. You may have your reasons for not, so I am just suggesting ... love the meme as is :)

  13. Mimsie; as a child I lived in Port Pirie in the mid north of our state and I remember frost crunching on the grass in the winter. our hoses never froze, but I loved being the first to walk on the lawn and leave my footprints.

  14. Andrea; I've had to rescue your comment from my spam folder. When Kim first gave up the Sunday Selections she asked if I wanted the link, but I opted not to, maybe I should have said yes. I wasn't sure that too many people would continue without Kim.
