new at Woolworths

Because that's where I shop, it's only 5 minutes away from home. I could go to Foodland too it's an extra 3 minutes walk which includes crossing a main road.....there's an IGA twenty minutes walk in the other direction too.
sometimes I'll go to Coles, but that's a bus trip...

Anyway, back to new at Woolworths...

Steam Fresh meals in 300 gram packs in the freezer section.
They were on special at $5 each, so I bought both flavours to try.

Honey Soy Chicken

ingredients = veggies, rice, chicken...

and 98% fat free.

Teriyaki Beef

ingredients=pretty much the same, just beef instead of chicken and a different sauce.

and 97% fat free. There's a whole extra % of fat in there.
Oh No!!
(shock, horror pretence....ha ha)

So I chose the Honey Soy Chicken to try first...

looks just like the picture on the packet, that's a good thing.

Now for the taste test...

pretty damn good!

although there was a side effect the next day that I hadn't expected.
I'd forgotten that processed chicken makes me fart.

That won't stop me buying this again though.
It's a quick meal that also looks and tastes good.

The instructions are for a 1000 watt microwave, so if you don't have that (like me) you'll have to adjust cooking times.

  1. Always great to find a convenience food that actually tastes good.

  2. Seems pretty good without artificial colours and flavours. Might give one of them a try.

  3. Wow. How wonderful to hear of a convenience food which deserves the name food. Yay.

  4. Sounds great. Would have to check total carbs but they shouldn't be too high. Fat and sugar content sound excellent. Our microwave is 1100 watts so should take about the same time. If I can talk himself into trying these they would be great to have as a standby in the freezer on days when we are both feeling a tad jaded and sort of 'can't be bothered cooking". A tasty quick meal. Thanks for the info. x

  5. Delores; I was quite surprised, I was expecting bland, but got flavour.

Andrew; They're small sized, only 300 grams, more lunch sized than dinner if you're a big eater.

Elephant's Child; it's definitely food. Real food.

Mimsie; the nutritional panel says carbohydrates:-11.3 grams per 100 grams of food for the Honey Soy Chicken and 13.3 grams per 100 grams of food for the Teriyaki Beef. The packet size is 300 grams. They are tasty which is always better than bland.

  6. Thanks for the carb info. Would be OK for us for a main meal which is good news. I will definitely buy some next week and try them out. Will let you know our opinion (or Phil's at least). I am pretty easy to please as long as food is tasty. : )

  7. You still have Woolworth's - ours all closed a few years ago.
It's nice for you to have a choice of shops nearby.
