Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesdays, Delores, from Under The Porch Light, has a meme which she calls

“Words for Wednesday”.

She puts up a selection of six words which we then use in a short story, or a poem.

I’m hopeless at poetry so I always do a story.

It’s a fun challenge…why not join in?

This week's words are:

1. pearls
2. arrow
3. creamy
4. fragile
5. fabric
6. cab

we also have a prompt which I am still working on...
"impetuous youth...indifferent time..."
( sounds like Romeo and Juliet)

Here is my story:

Cathy fingered the strand of antique pearls now hanging around her neck. A birthday gift from her grandma, they were a perfect match for the creamy silk fabric of the dress her mum had made from an old wedding gown found in a secondhand shop.
She was on her way now to the church where her best friend Helen was about to marry Stewart.
Daydreaming with a loop of pearls wrapped around her finger, Cathy was jerked forward as the cab stopped suddenly in response to a red arrow on the traffic signal. The fragile string snapped and pearls scattered widely across the floor of the cab.......

Comments

  1. "Noooooo!!" screams Marie who dives down and scrabbles around for the pearls on the floor of the taxi. Cathy, we have to find those pearls!

(I've had that happen once at a shopping mall. When I had them restrung, I had the jeweller knot each one individually so I'd not lose any again.)

  2. Poor Cathy! Luckily, the cab was immaculate, so she can scramble around on her knees to find all those pearls without getting her nice dress all dirty, right? We know how clean cabs tend to be...

Good job! I reeeeally like that prompt, too. Can't wait to see how you use them.

Susan; it is a very clean, new, cab and the driver is smitten with Cathy....

The Wicked Writer; she gets a couple that have fallen in her lap.

    Delores; it turns out well.

    Merle; they all get found.

  7. No....you have to complete this wonderful story that began so well. I think you're holding something back. Are you?

  8. Mimsie; yes, but I haven't written it yet, it's still percolating.
