Sunday Selections # 203

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to TheElephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.
  Andrew often joins in too.

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I have pictures of my Christmas decorations from two years ago.
Last year I didn't bother with a tree and this year I have Angel, so there will be no tree again, since there is no where I can put it that he can't get to.

the bathroom tree, this is battery operated and has a light which glows through the tree and star cutouts.

pink and gold for the pink and green bedroom

the tree

golds

reds

greens

the star

shiny things

glittery things

bowls of sparkle

I'll probably do a bowl of sparkle again this year since the bowl sits on a shelf that Angel can't reach.

I won't risk putting Elfie out, he's irreplaceable.

the sleigh sat next to the TV, it will go onto a higher shelf this time.

tree and star from the Oxfam shop, they're paper mache, but I've forgotten which country they are from, possibly Africa.

gold and silver stars

beads and stars on the curtain rods, these are up again, Angel can't climb the curtains.

bead chain along the top of the TV cabinet, stuck with blu-tak

reindeer

and all his cousins, these aren't up this year, I don't have any hooks way up high yet.

standing just 12cm high, this glass tree and decorations is something I bought while in Fremantle last year.

it's in the bathroom for now although I may move it.

  1. I hope you haven't underestimated Angel's leaping and climbing ability.

  2. Isn't it funny how we have to adjust our decorations to accommodate a curious cat? I have a wonderful handmade nativity set that I wouldn't DARE put anywhere that our "girls" can get to, so it's on a highish shelf in our BATHROOM.

I love your decorations, especially Elfie. He is adorable.

Merry, merry, Christmas, and all the best in the new year.

  4. Elfie is precious. And I love your tree from Fremantle. I love ALL of your decorations.

  5. I got rid of all my decorations a few years ago...now all I have is largish paper mache reindeer (I think it's paper mache...something similar, anyway) and a Santa of around the same size. So they are side by side on my coffee table for the duration.

I really am not a Scrooge or a Grinch...really I'm not! I do enjoy seeing your decorations and those of others. :)

I hope you have a wonderful week, River...give Angel a cuddle for me. I'll be in again for a visit or two before Christmas Day. :)

  6. Lovely! Always nice to adorn the house with a little bling.

I've seen some hilarious photos/videos of cats' inability to control themselves with all the glittery distractions at this time of year :)

  7. joeh; several things are where he doesn't have a base to leap or climb from so he won't get to them. The curtains have a thermal insulation backing sprayed onto the fabric so I don't think he can get his claws into them. He's never even tried. Merry Christmas.

Susan; Elfie was my Christmas gift when I was four years old, he has a chip or two that I've coloured with texta, but he's survived really well all these years.
I've left the green glass tree in the bathroom and Angel hasn't even noticed it. Merry Christmas.

    Delores; thank you. Merry Christmas.

Joanne; when I moved here I tossed out a lot that I didn't really like and stuck with the traditional red, green, gold; added a bit of silver. Merry Christmas.

Elephant's Child; Elfie is more than precious, he's family. I've had him for 58 years. I love all my decorations too and feel a bit sad that I can't have them all up this year. Merry Christmas.

Lee; So you're a minimalist, it's a good way to be if you don't want to spend months sweeping up glitter and tinsel scraps. Then there's all the putting up, which I love and taking down which is not so much fun. Merry Christmas.

Vicki; A very little bling this year. If I had somewhere safe to put the tree it would definitely be up. Merry Christmas.

  8. Haven't had an indoor tree since Precious was a kitten as she used to climb them and knock them over...repeatedly. I have nothing up this year apart from a string of this year's cards but intend to decorate the Norfolk Island pine on the front verandah again. Not sure of Candy's reaction to baubles so perhaps nothing low enough for her to reach.
Nobody comes to our place so sometimes feel it's not worth the effort.
Loved all your decorations....you do a wonderful job.

  10. Haha, just saw this post River - you've sure got some really nice decs, but was just wondering if you're sure you've got enough loo paper for the Christmas holiday period. :) :) :)

  11. Mimsie; you could try a tree with just a few baubles to see Candy's reaction, then you'll know for sure. Nobody comes to my place for Christmas either, so I just put up a bit of glitter for myself. I plan to put up the tree next year, Angel will be older, maybe it will be okay.

Plasman; Merry Christmas to you and your family too.

Rose ~from OZ; you had me racing out to the storage box to count the rolls! 85, you think that's enough? (*~*) Merry Christmas.
