Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesdays, Delores, from Under The Porch Light, has a word challenge meme which she calls “Words for Wednesday”.

She puts up a selection of six words which we then use in a short story, or a poem.

I’m hopeless at poetry so I always do a story.

It’s a fun challenge…why not join in?

Delores is taking a break from the challenge for a few weeks, so I’ll be putting up a piece (or six) of my own that I wrote without Delores’s words. I hope I haven’t already featured these.

Here is my story:  **

Maria looked down and smiled. The love he had for her was sweet, and sweeter still was the love she felt for him.

She knelt down to his level and hugged this tiny man of hers. His arms wrapped around her neck. "I wuv you Mummy" he said as he snuggled in. "I love you too Nicky," Maria replied as she stood and walked to his bedroom. They cuddled for a minute more, then Maria laid her son in his new little bed, a birthday gift, a real bed for this little man who was two years old today.

"Time to sleep Nicky, do you want teddy tonight or elephant?"
"Ephant," said Nicky and Maria handed him the fluffy purple toy.

Nicky hugged it to his chest as his eyelids began to close. He'd had a big day.

Maria turned on his night light, then turned off the overhead light before giving Nicky his last goodnight kiss and leaving the room.

(** pretty sure I've posted this one before)

  1. Dear River, thank you for your sweet comments on my blog. Hope you've had a special peaceful Christmas and have a great New Year ahead. Love your story - there seems an almost poignancy about it and leaves you (me) guessing what the ending will be.

  5. Molly; I've had a wonderfully peaceful Christmas, saw all the family over a week, so the joy and tiredness has been spaced out. I'm trying to think of a way to continue the story.

Elephant's Child; I thought you'd like the ephant, I put that in just for you. I was going with dinosaur and changed it.

    fishducky; so it's worth a rerun :)

Lee; I've had a lovely Christmas week, thank you.

Delores; I do like the sweeter side of things.
