Sunday Selections #589

Long ago, Kim of Frog ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections.

A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please.

Nothing rude or vulgar though.

And we don't mind at all if overseas bloggers care to join us.

The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I occasionally join in as do a few others. Andrew is one.  Messymimi is another. Drop in to them and have a look.

Here's a photo you have been waiting to see:

The first bath, which took place in the hospital. J was a bit nervous, but S guided him through it. I'm not sure which twin this is. The yellowed patches on her cheeks are from the adhesive strips holding the feeding tubes in place. They no longer need these.

walking around the block I saw this very lovely gate

some interesting seed pods hanging from a tree

an almost heart shaped space in the middle of these lemons

the tree is medium sized and covered in fruit, Adelaide does well with lemon growing

this creeper covering most of the fence has unusual shaped flowers

I believe it to be "snail creeper"

quite hard to get hold of and not easy to propagate, so this gardener has done well to get such a large plant. It could be something else of course, I'm no expert.

Back home and peeking through my screen door

as this cocky takes sips from the water bowl, he or she is the only one to do this so far.

my rogue tomatoes are bigger now and easier to spot, but they are hanging low enough to not be seen by the birds.

three miniature succulents planted in an old-style "fire truck", these two aren't doing well although the one just visible on the right is thriving.

this is the fire truck planter, another of the Mother's Day gifts from "no one"

I had an excess off eggs and milk in the fridge, so made three baked egg custards, dessert for three days.

dinner was a home made garlic burger with a stir-fry of all the bits left in my crisper, plus a pinch of curry powder for flavour.

  1. Your culinary skills are impressive but nothing beats the photo of the baby twin having her first bath. She has a nicely shaped head and I hope that her life will be mainly happy.

    1. Yorkshire pudding; isn't she just beautiful! Now they've put on a little weight, I don't know which is which unless I see them both together.

  2. Walking around your neighborhood is so fine! Of course baby in a bath is what we live for. Sweet tiny infant, good luck little dear. This world needs you!

    1. Linda Sue; my neighbourhood is quite pretty with older houses and long established gardens. The world does need sweet little babies who hopefully grow up to be smart and kind.

    1. Mike; I don't think there are any movies about pod-people anymore. I don't like that sort of thing anyway, so I wouldn't watch.

  4. Love that first bath. She seems quite comfortable and trusting.
Hope more of the cockys take to the water. She is setting the example that it is safe to do.

    1. Arkansas Patti; both twins loved their baths and I knew they would, all of us like being in water, baths, showers, swimming pools. But I'm the only one who likes the beach. The others all hate the sand which gets into everything.

    1. yellowdoggranny; me too. I'm tempted to take a cutting, but I've heard it's very hard to establish, so I'll just admire it on passing.

    1. Susan Kane; that is as close as I could get, there were a couple a bit more open, but sun-wind-frost damaged.

  9. Oh! The darling little bub. Last night I was thinking about your two new beautiful little additions to your family, and was hoping you felt free to post a pic. Thank you for doing so, River. So wonderful. :)

Take good care...I hope you have a most enjoyable week ahead. Cuddles to the lovely Lady Lola. :)

    1. Lee; thank you, I wish they lived closer instead of way across town. Lola and I aren't cuddly right now, I rolled over onto her in my sleep and got clawed again, more deeply this time and I poured on half a bottle of Dettol, then slapped on six bandaids while being thankful it was my arm again and not my face. I've forgiven her of course, she only did what cats do when being "attacked" while sleeping.

  10. Thanks for the baby picture. It's good of you to have animal (and bird) water available.

    1. Joanne; in this hot dry climate it's almost essential to have water available and many of us do it. There are at least a dozen spots where water is left out in these gardens alone and walking around the streets I often see bowls put out on the footpaths in the summer for dogs being walked.

  11. Flowers are always good to see along with one of the twins, cutie. Love the baked custard.

    1. Margaret D; the baked custard was delicious, it's one of my favourite desserts and a great way to get kids eating eggs too. I'm happy the twins are getting used to baths and they are home now.

  12. Oh, so precious!
I had to refuse, standing, when my Brother wanted to hand over 5-days-old Niece to me. She looked so fragile I preferred to sit down, so I cannot drop her and BOY, was she warm!!!
A beautiful gate indeed. And lemons. Here nothing exotic can grow.
The creeper looks... creepy! And kinda cute, like a dragon.
Those birds are so cute. I wonder if they know what sweeties they are.
Hmmm, tomatoes! And I love that fire truck. I slept in one as a kid.
Creative cooking! We had our first (boring) BBQ. Happy Sunday to you (well, what´s left of it...)

    1. Iris Flavia; it is a bit scary holding a newborn for the first time, but you get used to it quickly. They look fragile but are quite tough except you have to be sure and support the head and neck. When I held this one and then the other twin, I didn't want to put them down.
You slept in a fire truck? This one is little, about 50cm long.

    2. I sadly saw the babies just seldom, so I could not get used to it (long, dumb story, SIL involved).
Yes, it was the coolest truck! I actually choose it cause my Brother was just born.
      We loved it!
The back you could open the doors - it was for hanging clothes.
On the side was a mirror and next another door where you could store T-Shirts and stuff.
Next was a the driver cabin - a bench to sit on and a table to do your homework, space to store stuff underneath and to the left a shelf for books. In front place to store pens and all.
The lid of course was in front, to store toys.
There was a latter to climb onto the bed and in the back place to store the clock, glasses, books.
Best: When you got older you had the items side by side (a tad embarrassing as a girk when ou have a fire truck in your room, LOL!)
I posted about it here (I was not good at drawing...)

  14. Snail creeper, that's pretty, even if the name isn't.

The cocky has found a treasure in the fresh, clean water you provide.

Those first baths are so precious, and those baby girls are just beautiful.

    1. messymimi; it is a pretty creeper, named because of the way the flowers curl I think. I also think the baby girls are beautiful and J enjoyed doing the baths.

  15. I'm so glad to hear the twins are doing well. The first bath is always a big deal :)
It's lovely that the cockatoo was brave enough to take the water you offered. Maybe more will come now.
    That meal looks delicious!

    1. jenny_o; the babies are doing well at home now and I expect the parents are very tired. the brothers will help out as much as they can I guess, but they have school. I'm glad the cocky took a drink, this is the third time, but none of the others have copied yet. it's rainy here now so there is plenty of other water around.

  16. Good for J, learning how to bathe the babies! I'm sure his help will be needed! The lemon tree seems so exotic to me, since we can't grown them here. And also the cockatoo. "No One" has a knack for giving gifts that suit you!

    1. Val; "no-one" knows me very well, years ago when I was working full time and overtime and still doing most of the housework as well, she VOLUNTARILY dried the dishes each night for three years. J is going to be one of those "hands-on" fathers, doing everything he can. Adelaide is full of lemon trees, oranges and mandarins too. Some places even have limes.

    1. Granny Annie; yes, because they are identical. I have more bath photos and probably a couple are of the other twin but without the different coloured onesies, I don't know which is G and which is A.
