Wednesday's Words on a Friday

On Wednesdays, Delores, from Under The Porch Light, has a meme which she calls

“Words for Wednesday”.

She puts up a selection of six words which we then use in a short story, or a poem.

I’m hopeless at poetry so I always do a story.

It’s a fun challenge…why not join in?

This week's words are:

1. insulted
2. blacktop
3. mortician
4. jazz
5. dynamic
6. interfere

Here is my story:

Well I never! How dare you say such a thing!
Who gave you permission to interfere!
There is nothing wrong with this outfit!
Nothing!
Muttering, "I've never been so insulted in my life", and looking much more like a mortician than the dynamic jazz singer she imagined, crotchety old Mrs Foster stalked across the path to the blacktop taxi waiting to take her to the costume party.
Her neighbour sighed and continued smiling at the apparition that was Mrs Foster as she went back inside to tell her husband about it.

  4. Fun. And I am pretty certain I left the house in some outfits which should have remained in the cupboards too. (Many years ago of course.)

  6. Do we get more picky as we get older, I no longer care what people wear, I always enjoy a good chuckle at other peoples outfits.

  8. Delores; they look in the mirror and see what they want to see.

Susan Kane; one of my favourite words, I'm glad I could slip it in there.

Optimistic Existentialist; picture a skinny, tall, old, wrinkled lady with very white skin, dressed all in black, thinking she looks like a dynamic jazz singer.

    Life happens; thank you.

Elephant's Child; I still leave the house in clothes that should never be seen!

joeh; I have these words worked into another longer story too. it was surprisingly easy.

Merle; I don't think we get more picky, I wear what I please and don't care what others think or say. but dressing for a costume party is a different matter. Others may not see us as who or what we are pretending to be.

    Barbara Neubeck; thank you.

  10. R.H. it's a word challenge put out by Delores every week. She gives us six words and we weave them into a story or part of a story.
