Whimsical Wednesday # 137

Welcome back to Whimsical Wednesday!

The day for your googled giggle that gets you over the hump that is Wednesday and sliding down into the weekend.

Today's giggle is another of the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon strips that I have blu-tacked to my wall.

"Dad, why do I shut my eyes when I sneeze?"

"If your lids weren't closed, the force of the explosion would blow your eyeballs out and stretch the optic nerve, so your eyes would flop around and you'd have to point them with your hands to see anything."
"Gross"

"How come you know so much?"
"It's all in the book you get when you become a Father."

I wasn't able to photograph these without a camera shadow, I hope that isn't going to bother anyone.

I thought of doing an online search for this strip, but changed my mind. I could search for hours and get a million cartoons, but not this particular strip.

  1. Good one! Being the kind of boy he was, though, I would've thought Calvin would consider blowing his eyeballs out and holding them in his hands as something totally cool.

  2. I am certain that Calvin would have thought that was cool. And pretty certain that as soon as he heard it he went away and started practising. And practising.
    Big smiles - thanks River.

  3. Susan; me too. He'd think it would be a great trick to freak out Susie, the girl next door.

Elephant's Child; it does seem like Calvin's favourite sort of thing.

joeh; a manual would have been a great help so many times.

  4. Calvin and Hobbs we could live by their wisdom and life would be fun well most of the time.

  5. Merle; there is a lot of wisdom in comics, trouble is, too many people see comics as childish nonsense.

    fishducky; I knew you would.

  8. That's a good one and I think perhaps all new parents need one of those books to answer the endless questions we get from our littlies. I remember my son when he was only about 4 asking me how the man get inside the TV set!!!!

  9. It would be wonderful if kids DID come with a book....

  10. Mimsie; I remember some of the answers my kids got from their dad and me were similar to those given by Calvin's dad. We'd make up stuff on the spot and watch their faces as they tried to process what we'd said.

Delores; handy yes, but I think more fun without.
