Sunday Selections # 184

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to TheElephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.

Kath and Andrew often join in.
There are a couple of other participants too:
Jackie K at WorkingThrough It
Gillie at The View from Here

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I have photos from a visit to the Gorge Wildlife Park just a few minutes drive from Adelaide.

an albino peacock

here he is in all his snowy glory.
He wasn't at all interested in standing up and showing off his plumage.

two camels. If you look closely at the right hand side, you'll see someone's fingertips holding a camera. I believe it's my friend J, getting a close up before she starts handing out biscuits.

Definitely J and someone else's hand feeding the other camel.

this camel is taking a piece of biscuit from the other J. They are used to being fed and there was probably half a dozen people handing out biscuits to them.

this is my 'good' side

of course this side is just as good.

picking up dropped biscuits

funny looking, yet elegant

quite the star aren't I?

a different bird, which I at first thought was a peacock, but maybe he isn't

and to finish.....

this magnificent, lone jaguar.
He sat way up high on his platform, so still he might have been a statue, just watching as person after person took photos of him.
He looked so lonely, I don't think there is a mate in the enclosure.

Comments

  1. He does look sad doesn't he?

  2. That jaguar melts my heart. So very beautiful.
Though I have a soft spot for camels snooty elegance too. And the birds (but you knew that).

  3. The albino peacock certainly is a star. I have no idea what type of bird the other is.

The jaguar certainly is majestic...a beautiful creature.

As for the snooty camels...what do they have to be snooty about, I wonder? ;)

Have a good week, River...a cuddle from me to Angel.

  4. The jaguar is magnificent... but he looks old and alone. Poor thing.

    The birds are both gorgeous.

You should have saved all those camel shots for Wednesday. (You know... hump day!)

  5. The jaguar does look old he has a grey cat beard and he does look sad but I would be sad too if I lived in a cage.
The albino peacock is wonderful never seen one before.
    As for camels.
Have you heard the joke about camels.
Two fellows are talking outside the camel enclosure.
one say to the other "be-ware the camel spits", the other says "I am".

  6. The camels are interesting to see close up. Mr Jaguar is clearly old and its sad that he is alone.

  7. I love peacocks, such regal looking birds.
Camels are awesome creatures... love their eyes.
I agree, the jaguar looks sad and bored :(

BTW, your "mystery bird" is a Silver Pheasant. He has "the look" of a pheasant.
This is a male (obviously) - the females are unspectacularly brown :)
Their origins are S/E Asia and southern China.

  8. Delores; sad and lonely. I'm wondering if he had a mate and maybe she died.

Elephant's Child; he is gorgeous and I stood there for quite some time just looking and I thought of Jazz and Jewel then too.

Lee; all the big cats are beautiful, tigers and jaguars are my favourites though. Vicki has the answer to the mystery bird.

Susan; I believe the jaguar is quite old, he is going grey. I wanted to pat him. I hadn't thought of "hump" day for the camels!

Merle; His cage is very large, there is plenty of room for running and climbing, Angel would love it! It may not be possible, but I hope the jaguar gets a companion soon.

Andrew; I stayed well back and used my zoom lens, I didn't want to get spat on if the camels decided to let go.

Vicki; Silver Pheasant, thank you. Usually I take photos of the names of creatures when I visit such a place, but this time I forgot to.
I hope the jaguar gets someone to play with soon.

  10. jabblog; he is old and lonely, I could see that immediately. He needs a friend in there.

  11. I think camels are such fascinating animals and vastly underrated too. Not sure what that bird is but a peacock? Not sure.
I feel for that poor leopard as he does look as they he could do with a friend of not a mate. Did you ask anything about him at all? His age etc.
Thanks again for sharing such interesting photos.

  12. Oh man, there's not much sadder than a lone big cat in a zoo cage. Though maybe he is solitary by nature or old and cranky. I'm sure the zoo staff look after him well.
Love the albino peacock - I've never seen one of those before.
Great camel photos. They look almost friendly.
