Sunday Selections # 726
Long ago, Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, (who no longer blogs), dreamed up a meme called Sunday Selections. A place where those who were willing could put up photos they wanted to share, new, old, good, bad or indifferent, any photos you please. Nothing rude or vulgar though. And we don't mind at all if other bloggers care to join us. The meme is now continued by Elephant's Child and I join in as do a few others. Andrew is one. Messymimi is another. Drop in to their blogs and have a look. Wisewebwoman has also been joining us more often. **Elephant's Child is taking a break for the month of February** Continuing our road trip, today sees us in Snowtown, a small place 100km north of Adelaide. The welcome sign has an original windmill and the new wind power generators which we saw in a recent post along the hilltops for several miles. a painted water tower the infamous "bodies in barrels" bank which is no longer a bank All Bank signage was removed a long time ago an...
Oh, boy, yes, I saw bras for little girls here, too - how dumb is that?
ReplyDeleteOil, butter, you name it...
Iris Flavia; bras for children so young is dumb. Here in Adelaide a lot of fuss is being made about lettuce, iceberg lettuce in particular, which is scarce now and some places sell it for $9-$12 per head of lettuce which is ridiculous. I never liked iceberg lettuce anyway, so I don't care, but some fast food places are substituting finely chopped cabbage, which isn't right and some restaurants are asking diners if they require a side salad instead of just bringing it out as they used to. I'm hoping cat food doesn't become too expensive, Lola only eats one brand, the others make her sick.
DeleteWHAT?!!! Iceberg lettuce is the cheapest you can buy here! Not even €1!!! Not even $1,50!
DeleteI don´t like it, either, tastes like nothing.
Have you tried to cook for Lola?
The orphans pay no attention, the little beauty queens are unrecognizable . Inflation is illusion and you know that some one is getting rich...Always.
ReplyDeleteLinda Sue; my redheads think the beauty queens look silly all dolled up like toys. Inflation is an illusion and we all fall for it at some point I suppose, then we read about the obscene profits companies are making and get woken up. I always thought the way to run a business is to turn a percentage of the profits back into the running of it, to keep things shipshape ( factory repairs and upgrades etc) so as to keep customer prices within reach of the customers. Instead these fat cats buy themselves multiple mansions and mega yachts and laugh at us.
DeleteRight on all counts!
ReplyDeleteSteve Reed; how can the companies not see that when we can no longer afford to buy, there will be no more profits for them? Of course they already have so many $$$ they'll hardly be affected, but they will have product going to waste.
DeleteSadly there is a lot of truth in these.
ReplyDeleteElephant's Child; and almost every day we learn of more. Headlines saying XXXX company has $XXX billions profit this year, while people are hungry and homeless.
DeleteOil Companies... Profits?! What profits?!
ReplyDeleteMike; very funny, take your tongue out of your cheek.
DeleteAgree with these, especially Dr. Gary.
ReplyDeleteArkansas Patti; yes, but what can we do? These greedy people and their families just don't see a problem, after all 'they' can afford things, 'they' have homes and more food than can feed a nation.
DeleteDirectly to the points. The first one shows such hypocrisy.
ReplyDeleteAndrew; definitely a double standard there. And what are these children learning? That to "win" you have to be the prettiest? That's so wrong.
DeleteNot very long ago, oil companies were operating at a big loss, dividends were at risk, which hurts people on fixed income, and most oil stocks were in the toilet. Life and economics is often more complicated than a meme.
ReplyDeletejoeh; that's true too, to a point, but was the big loss real, were they and their families living in true hardship, or was it just a case of them breaking even and not having a profit that year? Or for a couple of years?
DeleteIt is a case of people in government with as much knowledge of the industry as you and me making very bad policy decisions for very stupid reasons. And while big oil was LOSING money and gas was cheap most of our states upped the gas tax while consumers wouldn't notice. New Jersey added 23 cents to every gallon for example. I often hear "Follow the science;" economics is a science that our leaders often decide NOT to follow but they will lie about it because the Truth of the results of their policy is often inconvenient. Sorry to be so wordy, but somethings are hard to convey with a meme.
DeleteThose little beauty queens are quite the business.
ReplyDeleteJoanne; I believe there is a lot of money involved too, but at what cost to the children?
DeleteHate the idea of those little girls being commercialized, in my book they look ridiculous. So sad,
ReplyDeleteMargaret D; I just hate seeing them all made up and hairsprayed, with inappropriate clothing for their age, told to smile and be cute. They should be out playing with friends.
Deletethanks for reposting...you rock....every time I see those little girls made up like little tarts breaks my heart.
ReplyDeleteyellowdoggranny; and how many of them grow up to be actual tarts after having learned that is the only way to "win".
DeleteI am always enraged at grooming children whatever form it takes or excuses offered. Dressing them like this is just wrong and sends out all the wrong kinds of messages. And paedophilia is rampant.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, look at the profits from oil and drugs these days. Vultures.

I cannot stand parents who do that to their little girls.
