Sunday Selections # 116

Welcome back to Sunday Selections!

This once-a- week-meme was originally begun by Kim of Frog Ponds Rock, as a way to showcase some of the many photos we all take, but don't get around to showing on our blogs.

The rules are very simple:-
1. post photos of your choice, old or new, under the Sunday Selections title
2. link back to me, River, somewhere in your post
3. leave me a comment so that I know you've joined in and can come over and see what you've posted.
4. hop on over to The Elephant’s Child to see more of her wonderful photos.

Kath and Andrew often join in as well.

I usually go with a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I have for you some photos that I took in the city recently.
You may remember that I said I was going to the city for a special event.

It was the opening day of the brand new Rundle Place building.

This building stands where our original Harris Scarfe Department Store used to be and now houses a Coles  Supermarket and a Food Hall on the lower level along with a Newsagent.
The ground level had several specialty stores, clothing, jewellery, shoes etc and Harris Scarfe, the upper level also has Harris Scarfe.

The photos I'm showing you are of the Chocolate Art display done especially for this opening and kept in place for the first month.

The artist, Prudence Staite.

the Chocolate Room, a basic structure coated with chocolate and decorative panels made entirely of white chocolate squares.

a close-up of the mannequin.
All the figures are dressed mannequins that are coated in chocolate then adorned with chocolate accessories such as necklaces and bangles.

The room is designed as a walk in wardrobe, but it is roped off of course so people don't get in there and mess things up  by touching the chocolate.

handbags and shoes, all coated in chocolate.

hats too.

another mannequin.
The ducting you see is attached to a cooler that blows cooled air to keep the chocolate from melting.
This "Chocolate Room" is (was) on the middle level of the new building.

This family of mannequins is on the ground level flying the "R" flag to announce the new Rundle Place. The sign reads "please do not touch the chocolate".

Come back next week for more chocolate art photos.

  1. Fabulous chocolate art but really...really...I'd rather just eat it lol.

  2. Delores; me too. But it's very cleverly done. Keeping the chocolate from melting would have been difficult in our heat, since the airconditioning to the building was turned off at night.

  3. how fun! but i imagine so messy to clean up!

  4. How amazing. And what a lot of work went into creating and maintaining the art.
I am so very pleased to see this post, I kept checking for you yesterday and was beginning to worry. I am more than glad that it was blessed blogger at fault and that you, (while justifiably annoyed) are ok.

  5. That is so cool! I don't know if I'd have the willpower to walk through and not nibble, though.

  6. Coated with chocolate or made from Choc?

Don't see much talent if someone just coated some objects with choc. Even I can do it.

On the other hand, if all the display stuff were made from choc, then it is fantastic!!!

  7. Certainly it must have attracted attention. Btw, have the pigs gone from the Mall yet?

  8. Cindi; I admit I hadn't given clean up any thought at all.

Elephant's Child; I was sure the post would go up as scheduled, but you know, gremlins and all that...I'm glad you enjoyed the post.

Jennifer; welcome to drifting. It was quite a small display and roped off to prevent touching.

mm; coated with chocolate. I think to creating fully from chocolate would take far too much chocolate.
still impressive in my eyes. The smaller objects like necklaces etc were crafted entirely from chocolate.

Andrew; it did attract quite a bit, there were lots of people with cameras. I was in the mall yesterday, I didn't actually check, but I think the pigs are still there. I hope they stay, they're very popular.

  9. Prudence does make sculpture from Choc, not just coating objects with choc.

  11. Yum! I bet, even though you can't touch or eat the art, it smells delicious!?

  12. mm; youtubes take too long to load on my iffy connection, but i'll read the articles.

Kath Lockett; that was the most disappointing part, no wonderful chocolate smell. It was probably compounded chocolate. Pure chocolate, while smelling fantastic, would have been to expensive to use.
