it was so very delicious

Last Wednesday, I decided I'd like to join the Unley Library.

I waited out the front of the flats for the Community Bus which takes people to the Unley Shopping Centre and brings them back again. It's a "free" service but they ask for a gold coin donation to help with keeping the service running.

I thought it would be a nice way to see more of the surrounding suburbs as the bus goes quite a long way around.
Once I got there, I found the library and joined up, borrowed a few books, then wandered back across the road to the Shopping Centre.

And found a Dulwich Bakery Shop!
I didn't know they'd opened more outlets, before this I'd only known about the bakery in the actual suburb of Dulwich.
With its very yummy curry pies.
So of course I went in and had a look around the display windows........you can see where this is going, right?

Yes! I bought something.
I'm a sucker for Dulwich Bakery goods. Of course I haven't had any for many years, not since I moved away from ------------- in 1991. But surely they'd still be just as good?

Mmmm, bakery.

there's even a (slightly crumpled) image of a pastry chef on the bags.

What's inside?

sweet, sweet yumminess!

a vanilla slice.

with fondant icing.
No soft icing, coconut topping here.

and soft, yet firm, not at all dried out, custard filling.

Delicious!!

And with great restraint on my part, I put it in the fridge until after dinner.

  5. Great you've joined the library. We would be lost without ours and we are fortunate there are two of them quite close to where we live and one where you can park right outside the door so I don't have to climb steps.
Vanilla slices....or=h how wonderful they look. We indulge about once a week (I feel we are allowed to at our age) and usually with a vanilla slice or a chocolate eclair.
I can just imagine you enjoying that vanilla slice after dinner...even more so having waited to do so.

  7. Elephant's Child; I should exercise that willpower more often!

Mimsie; I joined in the hopes of becoming involved in community events, but I'm not sure that will work out, because I do love staying home....I think a vanilla slice once a week is a great idea. Waiting makes the tasting just that much sweeter don't you think?

Kath Lockett; Save the picture as your desktop background, but position a towel to catch the drooling that might ensue.

  8. Good for you I would have eaten it straight away.

  9. My favourite cafe in Mentone has these but I found that eating it in public brings me undone every time. At home I can slice it in two and have the bit with the icing last.

  10. Merlesworld; I wanted to, I really did, but then I knew I probably wouldn't eat dinner after that.

JahTeh; I peel the icing off the top and eat it last, using a fork for the custard part.

  13. Dianne; I've done that, but prefer to eat them at home now, so I can lick my fingers, lick the bag, lick the plate....you really must try one.

The Wicked Writer; yes. Great restraint, I have.
