Sunday Selections # 17

It's Sunday Selections time again!

Time to post photos that have been hiding away in your computer files, photos that you may have completely forgotten about.
Have a hunt through your files and find them.

This idea comes to us from Kim at frogpondsrock, who realised one day that she takes many more photos than she uses and wanted to post some of the older ones on her blog.
A once a week meme seemed like a good idea, so Sunday Selections was born, and anyone at all can join in.

I often choose a theme for my Sundays and this week my theme is,

CATS.

This shadowy grey cat lives in one of the streets I walk along on my way home from work every day. I rarely see him and when I do, he quickly runs away down the driveway between two sets of units before I can get the camera out of my pocket. But this one time (not at band camp...)I had the camera in my hand already and as soon as I spotted him I stopped walking. I stood completely still, so he stopped running and looked back at me. Just long enough to get this photo. It was last spring and I haven't seen him since.

This orange tabby is the one that lives over the back fence and one unit over. She uses my yard as a highway, a resting place, and drinks from the dishes I leave out for the birds and lizards. When she sees me, usually she takes off over the fence as fast as she can, but one day I spoke quietly to her for almost ten minutes as she sat by the water dish and she stayed there while I took these photos. I just happened to have the camera handy....

To join in with Sunday Selections, post photos of your choice under the Sunday Selections title, then go to Kim's site, frogpondsrock, and add your name to her linky list. Then leave a comment there for her.
Have a look at what others have posted for their Sunday Selections.
There are some really good photographers out there.

  1. Love them. The marmalade cat won my heart - and you captured her patting the water really well.

  2. Awwwww... I may be besotted with Milly the dog, but I love cats too. Shame that LC doesn't!

  3. EC; I'm really surprised that she allowed me to take any photos at all. Perhaps because I already had the camera in my hand and was just sitting still.

Kath; I love both cats and dogs too. Is LC allergic?

Happy Elf; I'd have one if my lease allowed it. In the meantime, I get to enjoy other's cats.

  4. That grey cat looks very wary and ready to spring away. You can see how the muscles are tensed for action.

I love the pretty ginger cat, especially the shot of her "testing the water". I think it's lovely when cats wander into the garden and make it their own. There is something quite special about their "cattitude" that dogs just lack. Though don't tell Lambi I said that :-)

We don't see cats outside much in town, though I see them occasionally on farms. People keep their cats indoors mostly in Sweden, so I have to content myself with watching hedgehogs scamper across the lawn instead. I love cats and so does Lambi (though most of them don't seem to like her, unfortunately).

  5. I love to get to know my local cats too :) The cats who live with me? Meh, not so much. They think they own this place ... and my bed.

Hope that Smokey cat is okay somewhere.

  6. Marie; he is wary, I think maybe he is newish to this area, so wary of strangers. Cattitude is the perfect word for the ginger cat. She "owns" three backyards.

amandab; I'm sure smokey is fine, I just haven't seen him since I started working different hours.

  7. Cats are really really hard to get a decent photo. I like the grey cat photo the best. It is a great shot.

  8. Oh I wonder where the grey cat is. I hope he's ok. It's a really good shot. I like the first shot of the orange cat too. You've done well - I know how hard it is to get shots of my dog & she knows us, so to capture cats must be really difficult.

  9. I especially like the emotion in the photo of the gray.
