Sunday Selections #52

Welcome back to Sunday Selections.
Brought to us by Kim, from Frog Ponds Rock fame, sunday Selections is an ongoing weekly meme that allows us to post previously unseen photos on our blogs.

Anyone at all can join in, all you need to do is post your photos under the Sunday Selections title, link back to Kim somewhere in your post, then go on over to Frog ponds Rock and add your name to Kim's linky list.
Easy peasy.
Oh, leave Kim a comment too. she loves them.

I often (but not always) use a theme for my Sunday Selections and this week I've chosen to feature:-

GRAPES

Seedless of course.

Red grapes, which are very yummy.....

...and black grapes, also yummy and super sweet too.

Did you know that eating black grapes makes your tongue black?
Just like licorice.
I didn't, but I do now.

Grapes are a new passion of mine.

When I was little, the only grapes we ever had at home were sultana grapes, because that's what was growing in the backyard of the house next to ours and the old couple living there said we could pick as many as we wanted whenever we liked.

Years later, it became very hard to find sultana grapes in the shops, so I stopped eating grapes, because the larger green variety were sour, to me anyway.

A couple of years ago, I tried the seedless green grapes again and found them acceptable, last year I tried the red "flame seedless".
And found them delicious.

Last Friday, for the first time ever, I bought black grapes.
Oh. My. God.
How could I have missed these all these years??
So yummy!!

Please, join us in this weekly Sunday Selections meme.

  1. Grapes are a favourite of mine, and they are so good for you.

  2. With you all the way here. My christmas fruit salad has to have both black and red grapes in it. Sultana grapes if they have them. And they are soooo good to munch on. I don't understand how seedless grape plants reproduce though. Does anyone out there? Cuttings?

  3. Sultana grapes are my favourite. I don't know about you but grapes seem to taste better after being placed in the fridge for a few hours :-).

  4. We usually have grapes in the house. We have some at the moment, some of which are delicious, some sour. Yesterday Miss 5 found it hilarious to feed me a grape and watch my face to see if it was sour or not. :)

  5. Delores; they're a handy snack food too.

EC; I don't often have grapes in fruit salad, they get eaten too quickly. The grapes are reproduced by cuttings.

Windsmoke; sultana grapes are the sweetest. Try the black ones, they're also very sweet.

permanently amanda; I don't buy grapes in the winter and often before December the grapes aren't quite sweet enough. After Christmas though, I have grapes in the fridge almost every week.

  6. We had vines as kids and frankly, I'm a bit sick of grapes... I'll have the odd one but rarely buy them now. You are in the right city to get good grapes though..

  7. I love love love grapes, even those with big seeds in 'em - I don't even bother to spit them out.

...and one of my all-time favourite movie scenes is when Harry and Sally (from When Harry Met Sally) first meet each other and he spits grape seeds out of the window without realising that it wasn't open... :)

  8. Oh they look so delicious! I'll have to add them to my shopping list.

  9. Hi River,

I love grapes too (who doesn't)?

I don't eat them that often though.

(Note to self - add grapes to the shopping list).

    :0)

    Cheers

  10. They look delicious! I've never tried black grapes. Never been much of a grape fan, but now I'm curious.

  11. I don't like grapes--little round things that POP in my mouth---I don't like those tiny tomatoes for the same reason. But they are pretty and so are your grape portraits.

  12. I'm with you on the preference for seedless non-green grapes. Didn't know about the black tongue effect. Shops here sell mostly red and green grapes.

  13. I have never looked at my tongue after eating black grapes. I will now.

  14. Tempo; the grapes are good this year.

Kath Lockett; I hate the seeded ones, the seeds get stuck in my teeth and the damn things are impossible to get out. I've seen When Harry Met sally, and I didn't like it. Really not my thing.

learncreatedo; yes, buy some, they're so good this year.

Plasman; are they on your list now? Are they? How about now? Huh?

sleepydwarf; this year is the first I've tried the black grapes and now I wish I'd tried them much earlier, they're so sweet.

Linda, I like that popping in the mouth, but I suppose not everybody does..they are pretty to look at in photos too.

Carolina; keep a look out for the seedless black grapes and try them. Maybe even ask your shop if they can get them in?

Kim; you have to eat quite a few to get the black tongue effect, I think I'd had a couple of dozen. and the effect doesn't last long. Unlike licorice.
