Remember when Newspapers had early and late editions?

Thursday Thoughts --  The Late Edition

Waiter: we've just had some lobsters flown in from Maine
Customer: oh the poor things, their first night in the big city and they have to end up on my plate.

from The Shepherd's Crown by Terry Pratchett:
"Power means nothing without a decent harvest in the barn and a flock of Sunday dinners grazing on the hills."

(something our politicians should be more aware of eh?)

Thoughts:
I went to bed last night knowing I hadn't scheduled a post for today, thinking that I'd get a couple of hours sleep then be wide awake, or at least awake enough, to put something here by 2-3am.
Well, that didn't work out, as you can see.
It's almost 8am already.

Tuesday night's wide awakeness didn't repeat itself, instead my brain is a heat-melted mush puddle and all I want to do is lie around doing nothing until April. Or May.
Probably I should have stayed home yesterday, but things had to be done, so out I went, to hang around at bus stops, waiting for buses that are (lately) never on time or simply don't turn up.

I was told by a fellow traveller who also lives in these flats (another P-that makes three) that there are less buses during this holiday period because people don't use them.
What?
Oh, "they" are thinking of all those who commute to work and home again, they're on holiday, so the buses aren't needed.
No thought at all for the rest of us who use public transport all the time, or those who are still working over the holidays.

On my way home yesterday I shopped in the city Coles supermarket, because they have things I want that aren't available in my local Woolworths, and I saw some things new to me. Maybe they've been available for a while, but I don't shop in the city often.

In the salads section, I saw and bought, a 400g packet of **Kale Coleslaw mix.  It comes with an enclosed pack of yoghurt/chia dressing and also a small pack of three seed mix, pepitas, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds.
The label says it contains 5 superfoods, kale, red cabbage, carrot, beetroot and broccoli, all nicely shredded and ready to eat.

I mixed a small portion last night with my coleslaw dressing and set it in the fridge to let the flavours meld while I sliced some chicken, (I'll keep the yoghurt/chia dressing for some other time).
It was nice! and I'll definitely be buying it again.

Also saw, and bought, a 120g packet of Superfood Leaf Blend, which has similar ingredients, but with leaves as well as shredded stuff. Kale, baby chard leaves, red cabbage, baby red beet leaves, carrot.
I haven't tried that mix yet, but will tonight.

** last night I emailed several people to tell them about this and mistakenly called it KaleSlaw (*~*)

As I write this, I'm thinking that today is the last day of 2015 and I should be cleaning my home as I always do at this time.
I like to wake up to a freshly cleaned home on a fresh New Year's Day.
But it seems I just can't be bothered with all that fuss.

My floors in particular are in need of vacuuming, the dust and cat fluff is building up and I'm sitting here thinking, what does it matter? who cares if I vacuum today or on the weekend when it might be a bit cooler? Or next month? It will be hotter then, but I will have acclimatised a bit.
Maybe.
I hate summer.
So I'll run a broom around instead and change the bedsheets and call it done. I'm tired and achy anyway, so that will have to do. It isn't too bad here, certainly doesn't look like a rubbish tip.
If anyone knocks on my door, they've come to see me, not my home.

I'll finish with my favourite quote:

Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365 page book. Write a good one. Brad Paisley

  1. One day it will just hit you, that strong urge to get stuck in and clean. It is such a nice feeling after it is done but the motivation can be wanting at times. While we do buy salad mixes, it is such an expensive way to make a salad, but then there is much less wastage.

  2. Andrew; I hope the urge to clean comes back soon. I got the fridge and freezer done, but that's it so far. I rarely buy salad mixes because the packets are always too large, they make them family sized and I'm just one. But this looked interesting enough and I'm glad I tried it.

  3. I don't blame you for not going crazy with the cleaning. I don't like heat either.

  4. I am so happy to know your house will be no cleaner than mine. The dust doesn't talk back.

  5. The buses here are runnning (sort of) to a 'revised' timetable. Which simply means there are less of them. And they are less likely to arrive. Sigh.
I too am not cleaning. I probably should be, but it isn't a happening thing.
We are not as hot as you are, but MS loves the heat and what we have is waaaay too hot for me.
Happy New Year to you. (And it will come in without me - I won't be waiting up.)

  6. The salads sound delicious.
That's so true when people come to visit, they certainly don't come to visit the house, they come to visit you!
Cleaning will always wait till another day..

  7. Delores; I want to clean, but my body refuses to get up and actually do it.

Joanne; I'm very grateful that dust can't talk, mine could tell some stories I'm sure.

Elephant's Child; that must be what we have going here, a revised timetable and it's very annoying. I won't be waiting up on purpose, but if I don't get sleepy I'll be up at midnight. I had quite a long nap this afternoon.

Margaret-whiteangel; I'm surprised how nice the kale coleslaw is, kale itself is quite bitter, so everything else in the mix must be counter-acting that.
Cleaning here has already waited far too long. Ho-hum, que sera and all that :)

  8. Hi River,

I like the quote. It makes me consider keeping a diary.

    :o)

    Cheers

  9. Plasman; I bought a diary once, I think I was 10, but don't recall writing anything in it except my name and the date on the very first page.
